Halong Bay is one of the most spectacular settings in Vietnam, if not all of South East Asia.
Over 3000 limestone island rise up out of the water creating a maze of waterways.
Many tour operaters run cruises around the islands, where you can get off and hike through the islands, or kayak into lagoons within the islands themselves.

The central highlands of Vietnam are much less visited by tourists than the coastline, which is easy to navigate, by bus or train.
The highlands require a little more effort, but are worth it, both for the scenery as well as the reactions from the local people, who are very hospitable.

Sapa (above left) is a popular trekking destination in Vietnam.
The region has spectacular scenery of rice terraces built into the sides of the hills.

Mui Ne (above right) is known for its sweeping long palm fringed beach, as well as its enormous sand dunes.
There are red sand dunes and white sand dunes, which are best seen at sunrise for the best views.
