Many journeys in Laos are still done by river boat as the only means of reaching some towns.
These photos are taken on the journey from the Thai border to Luang Prabang (top left), the trip from Luang Prabang to Nong Khiaw further north (above right) and the continuation of that journey to the small town of Muang Ngoi Neua.

Vientiane (originally called Vieng Chang, but altered by the French) is the capital of Laos.
For a capital city, it is very quiet and laid back, and contains a great deal of temples and buddhist architecture.
These photos are taken of the golden stupa at Phra That Luang - the national symbol of Laos, and the river Mekong upon which Vientiane sits, which separates Laos from Thailand.
