Playa Blanca is a beautiful white sand beach with turquoise blue water on the Carribean coast of Colombia, near the colonial city of Cartagena. It is a paradise with very little in the way of buildings or other man made developments. It can be reached by boat which departs once a day from Cartagena. Above to the right is the view from El Penol, a large monolyth in the region of the city of Medellin. The whole area, known as Guatape, is surrounded by water, with a network of islands and waterways. |

Parque Tayrona is a coastal national park, also on the Carribean coast of Colombia. It can be reached from Santa Marta by bus, followed by a lengthy walk through the forest to reach the beaches. The walk is worth it, to reach a series of unspoilt beaches, protected by coral reefs, all linked by short pathways through the forest. Its status as a national park has also kept it free from development. |
