The Atacama desert in northern Chile is the driest desert in the world.
Despite this there are beautiful high altitude lakes, known as Lagunas Altiplanicas where it is too cold for the water to evaporate.
The lakes in these pictures are Laguna Miscanti and Laguna Lejía.
The whole region is volcanic, which makes for spectacular geysers which are active early in the day.
