These salt flats in Bolivia are the largest in the world, spanning over 10,000 km2 of pure whiteness. In the middle of it all is a bizarre island covered in cactus - Isla de Pescadores. Interesting hexagonal shaped patterns appear on the surface of the salt flats after the water, which covers the whole landscape in the wet season, drains away.

The World's Most Dangerous Road, Bolivia

This is known as the world's most dangerous road, due to the number of fatalities it sees every year. The spectacular mountain road descends over 3000m from the Bolivian capital La Paz to Coroico in the valley and for the most part is only one lane wide, but with two-way traffic. An exciting way to experience this road and surrounding scenery is to descend it by mountain bike since it is pretty much all downhill.

Some more photos of the quaint hilltop town of Coroico and the Amazon pampas near Rurrenabaque which you eventually arrive at if you continue another 14hours or so along the same road. The pampas has a high concentration of jungle wildlife, including monkeys, alligators, pink river dolphins, snakes and capybara (giant guineau pig).
